US BO: Funky Fails to Revive Vishwak Sen's Market

After the disastrous outcome of "Laila" and the backlash over its vulgar, double-meaning dialogues, Vishwak Sen moved away from such content and pinned his hopes on "Funky".

The project, which was initially set up with another banner, was later taken over and produced by Naga Vamsi.

The film grossed around $245K in its opening weekend in the USA; a near quarter-million total that appears decent only in comparison to its largely negative reviews, which ranged between 1.5 and 2.25 ratings.

Trade analysts say the film is unlikely to add significant numbers from Monday onwards, making it a loss venture for the overseas distributor. Despite facing minimal competition, "Funky" failed to generate strong momentum.

Vishwak Sen had hoped that collaborating with Sithara Entertainments; known for its solid US track record and director Anudeep KV of "Jathi Ratnalu" fame would help revive his North American market. Instead, with "Funky", his overseas pull appears to have weakened further.
