Trade Talk: Who is the Dasara Winner?

Four films were released this Dasara season, starting with Vettaiyan, followed by Viswam, Maa Nanna Superhero, and Janaka Ayithe Ganaka.

Surprisingly, none of the films stood out as a clear winner, as all of them have struggled with poor openings and unsustainable collections.

Vettaiyan failed to meet expectations at the box office, despite having big stars like Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. However, it is the only film that managed to bring in some collection compared to the others this season, though still far from impressive. By the end of its first three days in the Telugu version, the film grossed approximately Rs 8.25 crore.

Coming to Gopichand's Viswam, by the end of the first two days, it grossed approximately Rs 4.5 crore. Unfortunately, negative word-of-mouth is working against the film, leaving little hope for a revival in collections. Readmore!

Maa Nanna Superhero received mixed talk, and critically acclaimed, but this didn’t translate into box office success. The collections were so poor that on its first day, it managed a gross collection of just Rs 25 lakh. Neither Sudheer Babu’s star power nor the positive talk helped the film.

Finally, Janaka Aithe Ganaka, starring Suhas, was released with some hype, but the content was largely rejected by the audience, leading to negative feedback. The film’s collections were also dismal, with an estimated gross of around Rs 70 lakh on day one, offering little hope for a turnaround.

In addition to these films, Devara, which was released earlier, has managed to maintain its momentum. By its third Saturday, which marked the 16th day of release, it grossed Rs 5.25 crore.

So, while all the films released this Dasara have underperformed, the real winner of the season, despite not releasing this week, is Devara.
