Trade: Rajinikanth to Compensate 'Vettaiyan' Losses

"Vettaiyan," starring Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, has faced a significant slowdown at the box office and has yet to recover its budget.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film was made on a staggering budget of 300 crores, with production costs increasing after Fahadh Faasil and Amitabh Bachchan joined the cast.

In its first eight days, "Vettaiyan" has earned 123.68 crores across all languages in India. However, it saw a steep drop of over 70% on Monday, and collections have continued to decline, reaching just 2.30-2.45 crores on Friday.

Lyca Productions, which backed "Vettaiyan," has previously faced financial losses with other Rajinikanth films like "2.0," "Lal Salaam," and "Darbar." They had hoped "Vettaiyan" would recover those losses, but it hasn’t met expectations. Readmore!

Reportedly, Lyca Productions has approached Rajinikanth, asking him to compensate for the financial setback.

The superstar may agree to make another film for the production house with a reduced salary to help cover the losses. Whether Rajinikanth will accept remains to be seen.

"Vettaiyan" also features Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and others in supporting roles.
