Even as the reports of the Congress high command finalising the name of Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy as the new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief are being leaked from Delhi, party leaders in Hyderabad started lobbying to stop it.
The demand for giving the PCC chief post to the Backward Classes has begun all over again.
On Monday, former Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki announced that he, too, was in the race for the post, as he fully deserved it.
“We have made a strong request with the party high command that the PCC chief post should be given to the Backward Classes or Scheduled Castes. I have put forth my candidature before the high command for consideration,” he told reporters.
Yashki said the high command had commenced the exercise on appointing the new PCC chief.
“In all probability, the appointment will be made this month itself. As everybody is speculating, it is not a 20-20 match,” he said, indicating that there is no specific person in the high command’s view as of now.
In the past, too, senior BC leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao strongly opposed the proposal to name Revanth Reddy as the PCC chief. He even threatened to call it quits to the party, if Revanth is appointed.
Meanwhile, Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy, who was also strongly lobbying for the PCC chief post, declared that he was not in the race.
“I came to know that my name has not even come up for consideration by the high command. I welcome whoever is appointed,” he said.
