Reddy Consolidation Behind MP Resignation?

The resignation of Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy on Tuesday from Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Tuesday evening has not surprised many, as it was brewing in the party for quite some time.

According to sources, it is not just Konda, but a few others also from his community are feeling inconvenient in the TRS, which is increasingly favouring the Velama community in all major political and commercial matters.

In fact, the Reddy community has been gradually getting consolidated against the TRS government for quite some time and have been seriously putting efforts to bring the Congress to power, sources said.

Sources close to Konda said the TRS had brought him into contest in the 2014 elections only because of his money power.

He was the richest MP candidate from Telangana with declared assets of over Rs 528 crore. He is the son-in-law of Apollo Hospitals Group chairman Pratap C Reddy and his wife is Sangita Reddy, managing director of Apollo Hospitals.

Because of his money power only, Konda could defeat P Karthik Reddy, son of former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy.

He also reportedly spent a lot of money on the TRS candidates elsewhere. Now that the TRS leadership made big money, it has started ignoring Konda, sources said.

In his three-page letter to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Reddy alleged that the party was getting distanced more and more from the people which it had once represented and the government was becoming inaccessible to the people.

He regretted that the chief minister had inducted people who were against Telangana and the ideology into the cabinet and given them more power and prominence.

“I feel people who had fought for Telangana and shared a common ideology, including me, are no longer needed in the party,” he said.
