NRI Talk: Old Videos To Trigger Anti-Indian Sentiment

Indian communities in the United States are increasingly being targeted in different ways, especially in the current climate of immigration debates and job insecurity.

A recent example being circulated online involves an event that took place way back on October 31, 2024, in Cumming, Gerogia.

The event was organized by the NTR Trust on private property to mark the centenary of N. T. Rama Rao. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, NTR’s grandson, inaugurated the statue and the gathering was peaceful at that time.

The video of the same is resurfaced now. It is about two years old, but it is being circulated as if it happened today in order to provoke reactions and fuel negativity. Readmore!

Some online reactions have framed the event as excessive idol worship that clashes with perceived U.S. cultural norms, while others have raised concerns about growing Indian population.

At the same time, many have pointed out that the event was conducted legally on private property with proper permissions.

The larger concern is that old videos like this are being reused along with misleading narratives, including exaggerated claims about fraudulent H1B activities.

This is contributing to a growing wave of hostility against Indians where many hardworking individuals are being unfairly harassed.

Indian associations in the U.S. are trying to work with different groups and stakeholders to address these issues and reduce tensions.

However, the situation is being intensified by broader anxieties around job losses and rapid technological change with AI, which are provoking some unrest groups to target specific communities.

In this environment, it is important for Indians in the U.S. to remain calm, aware and responsible. There is a need for restraint, as well as vigilance, especially when misinformation and targeted narratives are being used to create division and hostility.
