The Andhra Pradesh police on Friday arrested YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLC Anantha Satya Udaya Bhaskar, popularly known as Ananta Babu, within the Rajamahendravaram court premises in connection with the murder of his driver, Veedhi Subrahmanyam.
Anantha Babu, who is currently out on bail in the case, appeared before the court along with his wife Lakshmi Durga for a hearing on a petition seeking cancellation of his bail.
Tension escalated when police took him into custody immediately after he exited the court, triggering widespread discussion.
The bail cancellation petition was filed following allegations that Anantha Babu had been threatening witnesses.
Authorities treated the situation with heightened sensitivity, deploying heavy police presence around the court to prevent any untoward incidents during the arrest.
Following his arrest, Anantha Babu was shifted to the Sarpavaram Police Station in Kakinada, where further interrogation will be conducted. Police are expected to continue legal procedures after questioning him.
Legal experts note that attempts to intimidate witnesses or influence testimony are considered serious offences, and if proven, could significantly strengthen the prosecution’s case.
With the arrest, the case appears to have taken a decisive turn.
The court’s ruling on the bail cancellation petition, witness testimonies, and the ongoing police investigation are expected to play a crucial role in determining the final outcome.
Authorities are proceeding cautiously, given the sensitivity of the case, while political and public attention remains firmly focused on further developments.
