The team behind Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi gave an interview to a Hollywood media outlet.
During the interaction, Mahesh Babu spoke about the film and shared some of his experiences to a certain extent.
Mahesh Babu shared that Lord Rama is one of the characters he is portraying in the film, in addition to the protagonist, Rudra.
Speaking about the role, he said, “I’m playing Lord Rama’s character. It required a specific posture. You can’t stand like modern characters.”
He said he worked hard to adopt a specific running style and felt happy after seeing the results of his months of training reflected in his performance.
Seeing the final shot made him genuinely happy. Every bit of effort felt justified. Spending six months training for a single moment on screen proved to be completely worthwhile.
He says the experience changed him physically as well, from the way he walked to how he stood and carried himself overall.
Mahesh Babu describes the first day of filming as almost unreal. They were transported to the location in vehicles, while Rajamouli traveled separately because he had to take a different route around the wildebeest.
After being dropped off, the vehicle drove away, and only then did they realize they were standing there alone among the animals. Moments later, they could feel the ground vibrating as the wildebeest began to run.
He recalls that Rajamouli was directing them from afar using a walkie-talkie. The director was clearly thrilled, repeatedly telling them that it looked great and encouraging them to keep moving. Hearing that, they knew he was getting the shot he wanted.
Once filming wrapped for the day, the actors talked about how rare the experience was. Mahesh Babu believes very few actors would have taken on what they did, and completing it felt like a significant achievement.
