People Never Celebrated Sankranthi In YCP Govt?

A TDP-allied propaganda channel aired a video in which an elderly man, wearing a green kanduva over his shoulder, was made to say that people are celebrating the Sankranthi festival happily now, and that such celebrations never happened during the YCP government.

He claimed that festivals like Christmas, Dasara, or Sankranthi were never celebrated properly under YCP rule and insisted he was “not lying, but stating the truth.”

The man further alleged that during the YCP regime, women could not wear new clothes during festivals, families could not invite relatives, nor could they prepare festive dishes for Sankranthi. He also said that due to the strong Amaravati movement, there was no festive atmosphere at all.

According to him, YCP supporters are now “burning with jealousy” after seeing people celebrating Sankranthi happily. Readmore!

Following the telecast, several memes began circulating on social media, mocking the video and lampooning it for its exaggerated and amusingly frustrated narrative.

In response, YCP supporters started sharing counter-videos highlighting vulgar recording dances and the flow of black money through illegal kodi pandelu (cockfights).

Along with these videos, they posted messages stating that under the current coalition government there may be no real governance reaching the people, but entertainment certainly is.

They sarcastically added that this Sankranthi was dominated more by recording dances than cockfights, and reminded viewers that a Telugu person’s ability to celebrate festivals does not depend on which party is in power.

They also accused speakers on television of conveniently forgetting the times when people celebrated festivals grandly due to money inflows into their accounts during YCP rule, and questioned how such claims can be made without shame.
