Sankranthi season has started. Kodi Pandelu is a tradition in Andhra Pradesh that has been happening for a long time, especially in the Godavari districts during Sankranti.
Though it is illegal, no one can stop it. This shows the weakness of law and order. No government dares to touch this tradition.
Amidst this, huge black money flows without any account. Estimates also suggest that Kodi Pandelu involves hundreds and thousands of crores.
If that is the case, why can’t the government legalise it and bring it under the purview of law so that the state can earn huge GST?
Not restricting it to districts alone, it can even spread to other areas, both online and offline.
Just like derby (horse races) happen under a legal framework with proper business procedures, cockfights can also be conducted legally.
This is the right time for AP to get this done, as the Assembly has a majority of 164 MLAs out of 175, which is phenomenal.
It is really easy to get it done since there is no strong opposition to object as well.
In fact, the present opposition party also did not attempt to stop or legalise it during its tenure. Since it is a cultural aspect, there will be no much resistance if it is made legal.
