If the reports doing rounds in the media circles are to be believed, present YSR Congress party MLC and former Chilakaluripet MLA Marri Rajasekhar is likely to resign from the party and join the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Rajasekkhar, despite being a Kamma leader, has been associated with the YSRCP right from its inception. In the 2019 elections, the YSRCP high command denied him a ticket, and instead preferred Vidadala Rajini for the seat.
Despite Rajini becoming an MLA and Rajasekhar and his followers facing numerous humiliations, he remained loyal to the party.
However, in the 2024 elections, neither Rajasekhar nor his family members was given the ticket again and even after Rajini shifted from Chilakaluripet to Guntur (West).
Yet, Rajasekhar did not revolt against the party as he has been given the MLC seat. But what apparently irritated him was the way YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reappointed Rajini as the in-charge of Chilakaluripet, despite her defeat in Guntur.
This has led to a lot of disgruntlement among the followers of Rajasekhar and they are said to be bringing pressure on him to leave the YSRCP.
“He is likely to take a decision soon and is said to be in touch with the TDP leadership,” sources said.
In fact, there was pressure on Rajasekhar to leave the YSRCP in 2020 itself from his own family members.
Rajasekhar was also terribly upset then with the YSRC leadership for denying him the MLC seat despite repeated assurances by Jagan. But he waited with a lot of patience and was finally given the MLC seat two years later.
