TTD vigilance probe nails Subba Reddy, Bhumana

A thorough investigation by the Andhra Pradesh Vigilance and Enforcement department into the alleged irregularities in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams in the last five years is learnt to have indicted former TTD chairpersons Y V Subba Reddy and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy.

The vigilance officials found that Subba Reddy had misused his position to allocate break darshan tickets on a large scale, while Bhumana allegedly allocated unnecessary funds for engineering works, burdening the TTD financially.

The Vigilance and Enforcement authorities have completed their investigation and submitted their report to the government, which is now preparing to take action.

According to sources, during his four-year tenure, Subba Reddy had recommended four lakh break darshan tickets, averaging about 273 darshans to various people every day. Besides, another 2,000–3,000 tickets under the Rs. 300 quick darshan category were allocated daily.  Readmore!

Former ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and R K Roja allegedly favoured people from their community by issuing recommendation letters.

The report also highlighted large-scale irregularities in procuring materials like rice, sugar, ghee, and jaggery for the prasadam.

Purchases were made at higher prices when costs were low and vice versa. Contractors delivered substandard materials despite tenders specifying quality supplies.

Two guesthouses, Achyutam and Shripatham, were constructed for Rs. 600 crores after demolishing Sri Govindarajaswamy and Sri Kodandarama Swamy choultries, which had provided accommodation to over 1,800 devotees daily. Experts' suggestions for repairs were ignored, leading to financial losses.

Funds for engineering projects were allocated disproportionately, affecting future projects. Irregularities in the Srivani Trust were also mentioned, including excessive funds allocated to certain temples beyond permissible limits, the report said.
