Ram Gopal Varma's much-discussed arrest drama ended with him being granted bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
While several news channels speculated about police searches and imminent arrests, the episode ultimately became a laughingstock as the arrest did not materialize.
According to sources, the Andhra Pradesh (AP) police faced procedural hurdles in Hyderabad, which led to their inability to arrest Varma.
Any state police force requires permission from the local police to execute an arrest in another jurisdiction.
The AP police, who arrived from Ongole, sought clearance from the Jubilee Hills police in Hyderabad.
However, the top brass reportedly instructed the Jubilee Hills police not to facilitate the arrest without proper documentation and a valid reason. As a result, the AP police returned empty-handed, unable to carry out the arrest.
This situation underscores the responsibility of local police to prevent unlawful arrests unless a case has clear legal grounds.
Reliable sources suggest that this incident was deliberately downplayed to maintain cordial relations between the governments of the two Telugu states.
