Mamata's Old Photo From the 1980s Goes Viral

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday pulled off an extraordinary feat of retaining her TMC-led government in Bengal for the third consecutive term.

The AITC (All Indian Trinamool Congress) secured 213 seats from a total of 294 and the Bharatiya Janata Party had to settle for 77 at the end of the bitterly contested election. Surprisingly, the other parties failed to win any seats.

Mamata Banerjee's party won a landslide victory in the state but she herself was defeated in Nandigram by the BJP's Suvendu Adhikari, by a handsome margin.

"I accept the verdict in Nandigram - it is not a big deal. Don't worry," said the Chief Minister.

During her press conference after the victory, she criticized Election Commission and called the poll body a spokesperson of BJP.

Throughout her speech, she called for Covid management in the state. She has also announced that there will be no victory processions and the only focus will be on bettering the situation.

The win means 'Didi', as she is fondly called by her supporters and opponents, will be retaining her TMC-led government in the state for a third consecutive term.

Soon after the win, netizens took to social media to congratulate Mamata Banerjee and her party for their convincing victory in the state.

Several opposition leaders across party lines congratulated Mamata Banerjee for her successful campaign in Bengal.

Ahead of the win, a Twitter account called 'Indian History Pics' shared an old photograph of Mamata Banerjee from the 1980s, one in which she is seen wearing an off-white saree.

Shortly after the win, the black and white photograph was shared by hundreds of users to congratulate the Bengal CM on her party's win.
