If the reports doing rounds on social media circles are true, the Congress high command is understood to have expressed dissatisfaction over the controversy surrounding woman minister Konda Surekha who made denigrating comments against the Akkineni family of Tollywood.
The issue has gone to the notice of the high command with Amala Akkineni’s angry tweet against Surekha’s remarks, tagging top Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
Sources said Priyanka Gandhi had called up Amala Akkineni and enquired about the whole episode. She, too, reportedly felt that Surekha’s comments were in a very bad taste and disgraceful, tarnishing the image of Akkineni family.
The social media reports said Priyanka Gandhi had also spoken to chief minister A Revanth Reddy and suggested that it would be better if Konda Surekha is dropped from the cabinet; and that would only enhance the image of the party and the government.
Though Revanth Reddy explained to her the actual reasons that led to Surekha’s comments, Priyanka was not convinced.
She reportedly asked him to consider sacking Surekha from the cabinet and replace her with another OBC leader, preferably another woman.
Apparently, the high command is of the view that there is no better way to control the damage done to the party, as the issue is likely to spread to the Bollywood and then, it would become a nationwide issue.
If these reports are true, then Revanth might follow the high command orders while undertaking cabinet reshuffle and expansion shortly, sources added.
