Konda couple set for yet another defection!

After a series of electoral defeats, political future looks to be very bleak for former minister Konda Surekha and her husband and former MLC Konda Murali.

The couple already changed parties several times – from Congress to YSR Congress to Telangana Rashtra Samithi and then back to the Congress before the last assembly elections.

Despite having a huge support base in Warangal rural, the Konda couple could not withstand the effect of the TRS and faced debacles.

Now, the Konda couple is said to be contemplating shifting loyalties to the Bharatiya Janata Party, which appears to be emerging as a potential political alternative to the TRS in Telangana.

Surekha and Murali have realized that there is no future for them in the Congress which is witnessing fast erosion of its base in the state. So, the next best option for them is to join the BJP.

Apparently, the couple have asked the BJP leadership to promise the assembly ticket to their daughter, but the party said it is too premature to give any such assurances.

Interestingly, another Congress leader Gandra Satyanarayana, who lost to Surekha in 2014 assembly elections from Parkal, is also keen on joining the BJP.

If he joins the saffron party, the entry of Surekha and Murali would become difficult, as the party will have to face tough fight within the party, sources said.
