JD wants no by-poll, if an MLA or MP quits!

Self-styled intellectual and former joint director of Central Bureau of Investigation V V Lakshminarayana, better known as JD Lakshminarayana, has come out with a strange proposal as part of electoral reforms to avoid unnecessary expenditure in the elections.

Lakshminarayana launched a campaign called “Ennikala Sankhaaravam” (Blowing of election conch) and came out with a series of reforms to be brought in the electoral system.

Stating that electoral reforms are the hallmark of real democracy, the former CBI JD called upon the people to campaign in support of electoral reforms to make the effective use of voting rights.

“We shall come out with one suggestion every day and take it up before the Supreme Court in the form of public interest litigation,” he suggested. Readmore!

As part of the strategy, Lakshminarayana came up with first reform.

According to this, if a public representative (MP or MLA) resigns from the post before the completion of his tenure, the candidate who secured next highest votes in the election should be declared as the Public Representative for the remaining period.

This, he feels, will avoid unnecessary expenditure on the exchequer and nobody would dare to resign from the post just to prove his strength in public, unless he loses his post under anti-defection law.

But netizens did not approve of his reforms’ idea.

Though it is a good suggestion in a cultured society, it will not be possible in a corrupt society like in India. There is every possibility that wherever the opposition candidate is elected, the ruling party may force them to resign by offering them money and posts, a netizen observed.
