It was on this day in 2016 Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for Amaravati capital city.
The event was organised as the family affair of Chandrababu Naidu as it was his family members who occupied the Centre stage on the day.
However, then Leader of Opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy skipped the event in protest against forceful acquisition of lands from the farmers for the capital in the name of land pooling.
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s letter went viral those days as he raised several objections and had categorically stated that he would not accept the injustice done to the farmers in taking their lands by force.
He also questioned the use of armed police forces in the villages and imposition of Section 30 and keeping several opposition leaders and farmers under house arrest.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also opposed taking agriculture lands and convert them into concrete jungle.
Jagan Mohan Reddy gave enough indications in his open letter that he will not accept Amaravati as the capital if his party wins the 2019 general elections.
As said in his open letter, Jagan Mohan Reddy brought three capitals distributing the three important organs of democracy to the three regions.
Surprisingly, this day, November 22, also marks the Amaravati farmers giving a break to their padayatra to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district.
While Chandrababu Naidu, remembering the foundation laying ceremony on this day, claimed that Amaravati would become a reality after the 2024 elections, the break that Amaravati farmers yatra comes as a shot in the arm for his rival Jagan Mohan Reddy.
