Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is learned to have decided to install a 100-foot statue of late N T Rama Rao at Nimmakuru village of Krishna district.
This being the 100th birth centenary year of late NTR, who founded TDP and became the first non-Congress chief minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to be actively considering the proposal to construct a memorial for NTR in his native village.
A delegation of some of the relatives and Nimmakuru villagers have already met Jagan Mohan Reddy last week and thanked him for naming Vijayawada district after NTR.
The delegation had also requested Jagan Mohan Reddy to construct a memorial for NTR in his native village for which Jagan Mohan Reddy had agreed.
It is said that Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to lay the foundation stone for the statue at Nimmakuru on May 28, the 100th birthday of NTR.
If this happens, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu would be in defence as he could not think of giving due recognition to the party founder till date.
People are already criticising Chandrababu Naidu for not naming any district after NTR despite being in power for many years.
This move, if happens, would give an edge to Jagan Mohan Reddy from the sympathisers of late NTR.
The move to install a 100-foot statue of NTR would also give some advantage to Jagan Mohan Reddy from his critics in the Kamma community.
