Former Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar said there was nothing for YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to get disheartened with the debacle in the assembly elections.
“It looks like Andhra Pradesh is witnessing Tamil Nadu-type of political situation, wherein one party decimates the rival party with a huge majority in every election. Last time, the YSRCP got the huge majority and this time, it was the turn of the TDP,” Vundavalli told reporters.
He pointed out that there was a stage when Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by M Karunanidhi got only seven assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, but he bounced back to power in the next elections.
“Similarly, Jayalalithaa whose party AIADMK got only four seats, also returned to power in the next elections with a massive mandate,” he said.
The former MP said if Jagan plays the role of an opposition effectively, even if he has only 11 MLAs, he can return to power in the next elections.
“Naidu is very strong now. So, Jagan has to put up a strong fight in the coming days,” he said.
However, Vundavalli advised Jagan to overhaul his party completely.
“The party has no organisational structure across the state. It has Jagan at the top and volunteers at the grassroots level. As Jagan lost, the party network has got disturbed,” he said.
He said in the next five years, Jagan has to build up his party organisation.
“He should appoint effective sportspersons with sound knowledge in subjects, not these so-called leaders who are known only for foul-mouthing others, instead of speaking on issues,” Vundavalli said.
