A special court dealing with National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in Vijayawada on Friday directed handing over of J Srinivasa Rao, accused in the knife-attack on YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, to NIA custody for investigation.
It may be mentioned that the state high court had ordered that the case pertaining to attack on the life of Jagan be transferred to the NIA to bring out the facts.
NIA took up the investigation on January 1. The case is now being tried in the NIA special court.
The court ordered that Srinivasa Rao be given to the custody for NIA for a period of seven days.
It directed that there be no third degree torture of the accused and that he should undergo medical check-up once in three days.
If the accused desired, the interrogation be conducted in the presence of his lawyer, the court said.
Now, the question is whether the NIA investigation would pose any trouble of Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who, the YSRC leaders alleged, had masterminded the attack.
The TDP leaders suspect that the NIA authorities might coerce the accused to give a statement against Naidu.
In that case, it would be a big trouble for Naidu before the elections. Irrespective of whether it is proved or not, Naidu will have to face a big political backlash in the coming days!
