It's Hung GHMC, Owaisi To Help KCR!

It is going to be a hung elected body in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as no political party could get the absolute majority of 76 seats in the 150-seat corporation.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi with 56 seats emerged as a single largest party and fell 20 seats short of the magic figure. Even if it takes 38 co-option members into account, it cannot get the Mayor seat on its own.

As a result, the TRS led by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has to depend on his friendly partner All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) headed by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, which has won 43 seats, to capture power. So, it will be TRS-MIM combine which will rule the GHMC in the next five years.

The Bharatiya Janata Party which won just four seats in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in 2016, emerged as the second largest party with 49 seats, giving the TRS a run for its money. Readmore!

Though it put up all efforts to win the majority seats, it knew that it cannot beat the TRS but gave a very tough fight.

For the TRS, it is a fall in grace. The party which won 99 seats in 2016 GHMC elections, received a big shock this time by losing 43 seats.

As expected, the Congress was nowhere in the contest. It managed to win only two seats, the same number it had in the last GHMC.
