I used to have lunch alone in the bathroom: Actress

In a recent interview, Priyanka Chopra shared how being her 'own hype girl' helped her navigate difficult situations when she moved to the US as a teenager.

She stated that she doesn't believe in the concept of 'faking it till you make it,' but she does believe in having a dialogue with oneself to hype oneself up.

Priyanka talked about her time as a high schooler in the US, and how she felt so out of place that she would eat all by herself in the washroom, as she didn't know how high school cafeterias worked.

During the interview on the Today Show, Priyanka revealed that she used to have her lunch in the bathroom, inside one of the stalls, because she was so nervous. Readmore!

She didn't know how to go to the cafeteria and get food, so she would get Doritos from a vending machine.

She would quickly eat in the bathroom and go to her class, so she didn't have to meet kids.

She admitted that this went on 'for a really long time,' until she learned to get around the high school environment by observing others.

Priyanka also talked about feeling like a non-American more than an Indian, and how she tried to fit in by changing 'a lot' of her identity.

She had to explain to her peers why she wasn't allowed to date or go out at night, coming from a conservative family.

Despite the initial difficulties, Priyanka eventually made friends and broke out after winning the Miss World title as a teenager.

She made her acting debut in Bollywood and has worked predominantly in the US for the last decade.

Priyanka can currently be seen in the Prime Video series Citadel, which premiered this week.
