GVL to broker TDP merger with BJP!

Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minster N Chandrababu Naidu’s recent observations that his party had done a mistake in confronting with the Centre before the elections and that he had no personal enmity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kicked up a wide debate in the political circles.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from top to bottom – right from party’s national president Amit Shah to general secretary Sunil Deodhar to state president Kanna Lakshminarayana categorically announced that the doors of the BJP were shut for the TDP forever and there was no possibility of any alliance with that party.

However, senior BJP leader and national spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao on Saturday came up with an interesting proposal.

“If Chandrababu Naidu is willing to merge the TDP with the BJP, I will talk to our central leadership and mediate in the issue,” he said. Readmore!

GVL was referring to a statement purported to have been made by his Rajya Sabha colleague and former Union minister Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary that he would try to bring the TDP back into the BJP fold.

“I have not heard of any such statement from Sujana Chowdary. May be, he has a soft corner towards the TDP because of his previous association with Naidu. Or he might have talked about the TDP merger with the BJP. If there is any proposal from Naidu, I will also put a word with our national leadership,” GVL said.

He, however, felt that the BJP might not get much benefit by merging the TDP with it.

“The TDP has lost everything. It has little chances of recovery. That is precisely why Chandrababu Naidu appears to be very much worried about his political future,” the BJP leader said.
