The inauguration ceremony and centenary celebration of the thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) was a grand success with many prominent personalities from different walks of life gracing the occasion.
SS Rajamouli recalled an incident of his unforgettable moment with ANR. “When I asked him why he did a comic role in Missamma, he told me that he did the character for a change, as he was getting mostly drunkard roles after Devadasu. Though he was an atheist, he immersed himself in many mythological characters.”
Naga Chaitanya called ANR a classic icon. “His filmography, creative risks, and experimenting with new genres, is an inspiring case study for many film school students and for me as well. I was fortunate to work with grandpa for Manam. It was a high point in my life and career.”
Venkaiah Naidu appreciated Akkineni family for unveiling the statue of ANR.
“Kudos to the sculptor who carved this living sculpture. I have personal acquaintance with ANR garu. He is the only actor who continued to act till the last day of his life. He is a man who upholds values in the field of cinema. Giving a fitting tribute to him is to follow the path shown by him. Cinema is more influential than politics. Thanks to all the Akkineni family members who gave me this opportunity.”
Nagarjuna expressed his happiness for installing his father’s statue at his favorite place, i.e., Annapurna Studios.
“I didn’t see the statue, till it was unveiled. My father had a glorious life. He was an artist who was honored by the country in many ways, an actor who played memorable roles for generations, and a person who is loved by crores of people and fans. Installing his idol at his favorite place gives a great pleasure for us. He lives on forever in my mind and everyone's mind.”
