Actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with a stampede during the December 4 premiere of his film Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad.
The tragic incident led to a dip in the film’s Day 9 earnings, which stood at â¹36.25 crore nett across all languages, according to Sacnilk.
This includes â¹27 crore from Hindi, â¹7.5 crore from Telugu, â¹1.35 crore from Tamil, and â¹0.2 crore from Kannada and Malayalam. With these figures, the film's total India collection has reached â¹762.1 crore nett.
Pushpa 2 had a spectacular opening, earning â¹164.25 crore on its first day, and by the end of its first week, it had collected â¹725.8 crore nett in India. Globally, the film's gross collection now stands at â¹1067 crore.
Mythri Movie Makers announced that the film has set a new benchmark, achieving the highest first-week gross in Indian cinema history and becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024.
Following his arrest, Allu Arjun was granted a 4-week interim bail by the Telangana High Court on Friday evening after being sent to a 14-day judicial remand by the Nampally Court.
His arrest prompted widespread support from celebrities including Varun Dhawan, Nani, Rashmika Mandanna, Ram Gopal Varma, Vivek Oberoi, Nithiin, Sharwanand, Sundeep Kishan, Adivi Sesh, and Rahul Ramakrishna.
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule continues the story of red sandalwood smuggling, picking up from where Pushpa: The Rise (2021) left off.
Allu Arjun reprises his role as Pushpa Raj, with Rashmika Mandanna as Srivalli and Fahadh Faasil as Bhanwar Singh Shekawat.
The ensemble cast also includes Jagapathi Babu, Dhananjaya, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, and Anasuya Bharadwaj.
