Corona effect: KCR not to step down now?

Till a couple of months ago, there was a talk that Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao would hand over the mantle of the power to his son K T Ram Rao by this year end – may be by Dasara festival.

In fact, there were rumours that KCR would step down by February 17, his 66th birthday, to make way for his son as the chief minister. Several TRS leaders, including ministers, openly declared before the media that KTR would soon replace KCR.

At a press conference after Huzurnagar by-elections, KCR laughed, instead of shouting at the media, when he was asked when he would hand over the power to his son.

“There is time for everything. Nothing would stop it when it has to happen,” he said. Readmore!

But now, there are reports that KCR has dropped the idea of stepping down from CM’s post in favour of his son, thanks to Coronavirus scare.

The viral disease has upset all his calculations and ruined the state’s economy. There is no other issue before the government now except coming out of this Coronavirus pandemic.

Under these situations, KCR thought it is not idle to hand over the power to his son, when the economy is bad and the relations with the Centre are not so healthy.

“First he wants the issue to settle down and the state to return to the normalcy. Once the system stabilises, it will be easy for KTR to run the show. He doesn’t want his son to fail as an administrator at this stage,” a TRS leader said.
