BRS rebels begin jumping into Congress

The Congress party, which has been lacking potential candidates to fight the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana, has now started witnessing exodus of leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

As expected, the BRS leaders who were pinning hopes on the party to get tickets to contest the assembly elections are now looking up to the Congress after chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced the list of his party candidates.

The first person to jump the fence into the Congress is Khanapur BRS MLA Ajmeera Rekha Naik. On Tuesday, she formally submitted her application in Gandhi Bhavan for the party ticket from her constituency, after the BRS leadership denied her the ticket.

On Monday night, her husband Shyam Naik, a senior state government official who took voluntary retirement from service and joined politics recently, joined the Congress party and sought the ticket from Asifabad. PCC chief A Revanth Reddy assured that either he or his wife would be given the ticket. Readmore!

Rekha Naik, a two-time MLA from Khanapur, alleged that she had become a victim of conspiracy hatched by a few leaders.

“I shall teach a lesson to the BRS. I have the support of the people, as I have been serving them for the last 10 years,” she said.

Meanwhile, BRS legislator from Malkajgiri Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao also raised a banner of revolt against the BRS leadership. Though he was given the ticket, he wanted the party ticket to his son Rohit as well from Medak.

Though Mynampalli said he would abide by KCR’s decision, he changed his tune again on Tuesday and said his son would contest the Medak seat and he, too, would take his own course of action. Apparently, he got the hint that he might be dropped from the list any time.
