Bollywood actor Chrisann Pereira is currently in Sharjah Central Jail after being arrested at Sharjah airport on April 1 for carrying drugs hidden inside a trophy. However, it has now come to light that she was allegedly framed in a conspiracy involving a fight over a dog.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two people, bakery owner Anthony Paul and bank assistant general manager Rajesh Bobhate, for their involvement in the case.
According to senior inspector Deepak Sawant, Anthony booked the Sharjah ticket for Pereira and gave her a fake return ticket. He allegedly approached the actor through Rajesh, who posed as a talent consultant and offered her an audition for a web series in Sharjah.
The police suspect that Pereira was made a drug mule in revenge for a fight between Anthony's sister and Pereira's mother over the dog. Anthony allegedly gave Pereira the trophy with hidden drugs, and she was caught at Sharjah airport.
Anthony and Rajesh have been accused of framing at least five people in a similar fashion, including DJ Clayton Rodriguez, by giving them a cake with hidden drugs. They have been sent to police custody until May 2.
Pereira has appeared in Bollywood films such as 'Sadak-2' and 'Batla House'.
