The pre-poll and post-poll surveys for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana conveyed a strong message that the BJP was expected to lose badly in both places.
The counting started today. After the first hour, the Haryana trend indicated that Congress would sweep the elections, as predicted by most surveys.
Congress party members even distributed sweets among themselves after the initial results. However, within a few minutes, the trend changed dramatically, raising eyebrows of Haryana people and national media. Congress began to trail, and the BJP took the lead. This trend continued until the end, and ultimately, the BJP won Haryana in a dramatic turnaround.
Most surveys indicated that there would be a strong hold for Congress in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The former prediction proved accurate, aligning with the surveys, but the latter turned out to be incorrect, failing to match almost all exit polls.
Haryana recorded a one-sided BJP victory that contradicted popular exit polls.
Besides, it's noteworthy that AAP couldn't win a single seat in J&K or Haryana, proving to be a complete flop in both states, raising concerns about its future in Delhi as well.
