Bharatiya Janata Party has been a lot of hue and cry over seizure of Rs 18 lakh cash by the police authorities from the residence of father-in-law of party candidate M Raghunandan Rao for by-elections to Dubbak assembly seat on Monday night.
However, the party appears to have failed to achieve its objective of gaining sympathy from the public; instead, it has made a self-goal in the entire episode.
The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has conducted the operation tactfully, so as to expose the BJP’s cheap tricks.
The BJP leaders have sought to create an impression that the cash seized from the house of Raghunandan Rao’s father-in-law Anjan Rao in Siddipet was planted by the TRS under the directions of finance minister T Harish Rao to defame the BJP.
The party leaders leaked a video clipping to the media, showing a police constable carrying a bag of cash stealthily at Anjan Rao’s house, which the BJP workers tried to seize and expose. In the process, some of the BJP workers took away part of the cash.
As per the plan of the TRS, the Siddipet police deliberately kept the actual videos in dark till Tuesday morning and then released them to the media.
The videos released by Siddipet police commissioner Joel Davis, clearly show how Anjan Rao brought out the bag of cash, gave it to the police and how explained to the police about the cash in the residence.
There were no BJP leaders or cadres at that time. The hungama began only after the police were conducting panchanama of the cash received when the BJP workers rushed there and created a ruckus.
In a bid to cover up the seizure of cash from the house of Raghunandan’s in-laws, the BJP leaders including party president Bandi Sanjay tried to make a big issue and call for Chalo Pragati Bhavan call. But all that backfired on them and the TRS had a last laugh!
