A special court for CBI cases in Hyderabad on Friday issued summons to YSR Congress party leader and Kadapa MP Y S Avinash Reddy to appear before the court on August 14, in connection with the trial in the Y S Vivekananda Reddy murder case.

The CBI court took into cognizance the supplementary chargesheet filed by the CBI on June 30, in which the agency named Avinash Reddy as accused no. 8 (A-8), along with his father Y S Bhaskar Reddy and associate Uday Kumar Reddy.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday permitted Avinash Reddy’s close aide Shivshankar Reddy, who is an accused no. 5 (A-5) in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case, to apply for a bail in the lower court.

Earlier, a division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice M R Shah ruled that Shivashankar Reddy could apply for bail if the trial doesn’t begin till September. But on Friday, Justice Vikramnath bench said there were no hurdles for him to apply for bail in the trial court.

It said the orders issued by Justice Shah in the past would not come in the way of Shivashankar Reddy to move his bail petition.

The Supreme Court suggested to the trial court that it could take appropriate decisions on the bail petition on merit basis, after hearing the arguments of all sides.
