Attack on Jagan: CISF, AP police pass buck

Within a couple of hours of the attack on the life of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at the Visakhapatnam airport on Thursday afternoon, the blame game began between the Andhra Pradesh police and the Central Industrial Security Force which mans the airport.

Director General of CISF C V Anand said the CISF would not conduct any security checks on the staff working in the airport premises but would only check their identity cards. Security check would be conducted only of the passengers.

Even visitors could come up to the check-in area without any problem, but they would not be allowed beyond the security check-in point, he said.

Anand also said while there would be thorough security checking at the checking port zone, there would not be any checking on the airport lounge area. As such, there was no security lapse on the part of the CISF, he said. Readmore!

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh director general of police R P Thakur sought to throw the blame on the CISF.

“Since the incident happened in the airport, the CISF should be held responsible. We are asking the CISF authorities as to how they had allowed a knife into the longue area which was beyond the security check-in port zone. We shall provide security to everybody and if necessary, we shall step up the security,” he said.

Meanwhile, YSRC leaders alleged that Thakur was lying. On the DGP’s claim that the CISF security men had arrested the attacker, they said the video clearly shows that it was AP police who were present at the scene and they took the accused into the custody.
