In Andhra Pradesh, women are gaining prominence in various fields, including the liquor business.
Freshly, 31 out of 155 liquor shop licenses in Visakha district were allotted to women through a lottery system.
Remarkably, over 4,000 applications were received for liquor shop licenses, with many women applying in large numbers.
However, it is believed that some of these applications were submitted by men with women's names, as the liquor business is seen as profitable.
Many women attended the lottery premises, and it is notable that they come from various fields.
As liquor has become a lucrative business, many husbands applied on behalf of their wives, hoping to increase their chances. Interestingly, women ended up securing more shops through the lottery.
For decades, women fought against liquor and brought prohibition, but now it’s treated like any other business by them.
Political parties even promise affordable, quality alcohol during elections.
Today, alcohol is seen as essential, and those who abstain are considered outdated and not in pace with the changed world.
