It has been five days since farmers of Amaravati have halted their padayatra to Arasavilli temple in Srikakulam district at Ramachandrapuram in Konaseema district protesting the police excesses and restrictions.
While taking a break for the padayatra, the Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders said they would move a lunch motion petition before the high court on October 27 after the Diwali vacations seeking lifting of restrictions.
They wanted to challenge the order given by the single judge bench imposing restrictions like no outsiders should be allowed to join the yatra of the farmers and no other vehicles, except the permitted number would be there in the yatra.
The court also categorically said all the farmers should display their identity cards given by the police at the commencement of padayatra in Amaravati on September 12.
However, the high court on Thursday rejected the lunch motion petition of the Amaravati farmers, saying they should approach the regular bench, rather than filing an emergency petition.
The high court allowed the petitioners to move the regular division bench on Tuesday. So, the farmers would have to wait till Tuesday – it means, there will be no padayatra by farmers for another five days.
The YSR Congress party has already ensured that the padayatra is fizzled out.
State minister for education Botsa Satyanarayana said the padayatra of the so-called Amaravati farmers won’t be taking place, as the Telugu Desam Party has no opportunity to send its cadres in the name of farmers due to court restrictions.
