90,000 US visas for Indian students this summer

For a third year in a row, Indian students have got a record number of US visas. The US Embassy in India on Monday said it has “issued a record number – over 90,000 – student visas this summer in June, July, and August. This summer almost one in four student visas worldwide was issued right here in India.”

Last summer was another high at 82,000 which was the highest globally in the admission season of 2022 for America.

While India still has a backlog for visitor B1/B2 visa interviews, the US ensured student visas did not get delayed.

“With teamwork and innovation, we ensured that all qualified applicants reached their programs on time,” the US embassy said on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday. Readmore!

“In FY 2022, our Embassy and Consulates in India broke the all-time record for most student and exchange visitor visas issued in a year, issuing more than 125,000 visas. India now is the second largest origin country (after China) for US international students,” the official had said.

China is still the largest sender of students to the United States for higher education. The fallout of strained India-Canada relations is likely to see more Indians students heading to US, UK and Australia.
