35 Lakh AP Students To Get Laptops

Hold your breath. More than 35 lakh students in Andhra Pradesh are set to get laptops this year.

The laptops were offered by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as a substitute to the money under the Amma Vodi and Vidya Devena programmes.

All these 35 lakh students are mostly from the rural and tribal areas, who have no access to this electronic device for several years.

The opening of more engineering colleges in 1990s and 2000s have made several lakhs of students from the rural areas to get into the engineering education.  Readmore!

However, they have been lagging behind their urban fellow students in the class rooms for all these years.

Most of the students from urban areas come from middle class and above middle class families and have access to the laptops and other devices.

On the contrary, the students from rural areas are mostly from the poor families and have come with the help of the fee reimbursement scheme.

Now, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had offered laptops from the second year onwards as substitute to cash under the Amma Vodi and Vidya Deevena programmes.

The state government had placed order from top branded companies for the supply of these laptops, which would be handed over to the beneficiary students once they are ready.

Well, rural students too would soon be holding a branded laptop both in the campus and at the job interviews, a game changer in the job market.
