Will Naidu Meet The Fate Of Roja?

If the ruling YSR Congress party has its way, Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu may meet the same fate of firebrand YSRC legislator R K Roja during the TDP regime.

Roja, who represents Nagari segment in the assembly, was suspended from the state assembly in 2015 for one year by then Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao for allegedly making derogatory comments against Naidu, who was then the chief minister of AP.

Kodela then charged Roja with making some derogatory remarks against the Chief Minister while he was making a statement on the issue of ‘call money’ scandal. Roja later moved the high court, but the latter upheld the Speaker’s decision a year later.

Now, Naidu is also likely to get suspended from the assembly for one year for violating the decency and decorum of the House by squatting on the floor of the House and threatening a ruling party MLA. Readmore!

Soon after chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke about the government’s initiatives for farmer welfare, state minister for legislative affairs Buggana Rajenderanath moved a resolution on the objectionable conduct of Naidu and sought action under Rule 77 of the assembly procedure.

“This kind of a situation should not repeat and a strong message should be sent out,” he said while moving the resolution, which was adopted unanimously in the House.

Speaker Tammineni Sitaram reserved his ruling on the resolution.

“It is unfortunate that such a situation should come up in the House. The Leader of Opposition seems to be in confusion and every member should follow the rules. The resolution is adopted and will be considered at an appropriate time,” the Speaker said and adjourned the House for the day.

According to sources, Tammineni might announce the suspension of Naidu either for the rest of the session or even for one year.

“That will be a fitting lesson for Naidu for getting Roja suspended for one year during his tenure,” a YSRC leader observed.
