The sudden aggressive behaviour of the Andhra Pradesh police in barging on to the Nagarjuna Sagar dam and set up fencing at the 13th gate claiming that the part belonged to their state after Wednesday midnight has raised many eyebrows.
Around 700 policemen of APSP barged on to the dam at about 2 am through the left main gates on the side of the right bank and reportedly clashed with the personnel of Telangana State Special Force, who were guarding the dam.
Some of the Telangana policemen were injured in the incident. They took the dam up to 13th gate into their control and set up fencing at the gate. The Andhra police also damaged the CCTV cameras setup at the gate as a part of the security arrangement.
The TSSF personnel have reported the matter to the higher officials. The tense situation was continuing at the dam.
The situation evoked surprise and shock, there was absolutely no provocation from the Telangana side, as the officials were totally busy with the election work.
There was no attempt even to forcibly release the water to Telangana side, nor did the Telangana authorities raised any objection to release of water to Andhra crops. The water releases are completely under the control of Krishna river management board.
Naturally, the opposition parties smell something fishy in the entire episode. They say it was a high drama enacted by the Telangana government with the support of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government to kick up Telangana sentiment hours before the polling.
“It is very clear that the AP police had created a hungama at Nagarajunasagar only to see that the BRS government gains political mileage in the elections. The BRS wants to create an impression that only it can protect the interests of the state,” PCC president A Revanth Reddy said.
He appealed to the voters not to get carried away with such dramas and theatrics, which occurred on the polling day.
“There is no need for any worry. We shall deal with the issue through negotiations soon after coming to power next week,” he asserted.
