YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was supposed to leave for London on September 3 on a long holiday to spend time with his daughters, deferred his plan.
His party leaders have given the impression to the media that Jagan had postponed his plans to tour London because he was very much moved by the plight of flood victims of Vijayawada and Guntur and that he would stay back to attend to their grievances.
But on Friday, it was revealed that Jagan could not fly to London because of the cancellation of his diplomatic passport by the Indian Passport authorities at the last moment, on the ground that he is no more the chief minister of the state.
Having no other option, Jagan applied for general passport for a period of five years. He filed a petition in the court hearing the cases of public representatives in Vijayawada to this effect.
However, the court which heard the arguments on his petition, ordered that Jagan should be given the passport, but only for one year, much to his shock.
On Friday, Jagan filed a lunch motion petition in the state high court, requesting that he should be given the passport for five years. The court, which took up the petition, posted the case to Monday for further hearing.
As a result, Jagan had no option but to further postpone his London visit. In fact, the CBI court in the last week of August, gave him permission to go abroad till September 25.
Now with the passport getting cancelled, he has to wait for some more time till he gets new passport.
