YSR Congress party on Thursday accused Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu of indulging in smear campaign against YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for meeting Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders.
YSRC senior leader and former minister Botsa Satyanarayana wondered why Naidu was getting so much frustrated with the meeting of Jagan with TRS working president K T Rama Rao which was meant to discuss the federal front.
“The meeting was essentially meant for preliminary discussions on the formation of a federal front, which would help the two Telugu states get a better bargaining power at the Centre with a combined strength of MPs,” he said.
However, the TDP leaders are blowing the meeting out of proportion with a distorted version and Naidu with his friendly media and his cabinet colleagues have been spreading canards on the meeting, Botsa said.
He reiterated that the YSRC will not have tie-up with any party and it will extend support to any dispensation that would honour the sentiments of the State, including granting of special category status to AP.
“Jagan has time and again firmly said that he would not have electoral tie-up with any party and will support any coalition or front that would serve the state interests,” he said.
Botsa reminded that it was Naidu who had approached the TRS for an electoral tie-up before the elections and he was bluntly turned down.
“Then the opportunist Chandrababu Naidu had turned to Congress and was part of Maha Kutami, which was rejected in the Telangana elections,” he pointed out.
