Why is Jagga Reddy blackmailing Congress?

It has been three days since senior Congress leader and Sangareddy MLA Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy announced his resignation from the Congress party.

He wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi stating that he would soon resign from the Pradesh Congress Committee working president post and also the primary membership of the party.

He made several allegations against present PCC president A Revanth Reddy in the letter, stating that he was pained at being branded as covert of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the Congress. “From today, I am out of the Congress party, as I cannot bear this humiliation anymore,” he said in the letter.

But still, there are no signs of Jagga Reddy leaving the Congress party. Though he said he was already out of the party, his statements continue to appear in the partys’ WhatsApp groups. Readmore!

If he really wanted to quit the Congress, he would have straightaway put in his papers and get out of it. But the statement that he would resign soon itself indicates that he is trying to blackmail the Congress high command.

Jagga Reddy is claiming that several seniors like Uttam Kumar Reddy and V Hanumantha Rao have requested him not to take hasty decisions but to wait for a few days. Yet, he declared that there was no change in his decision.

What would happen if Jagga Reddy waits for a few days? Nothing. Will the high command sack Revanth Reddy and appoint Jagga Reddy as the PCC chief? It will not risk taking such a decision at this stage. So, the Sangareddy MLA would have to work under Revanth Reddy only.

The PCC chief knows this and is therefore maintaining restraint. He said Jagga Reddy is a senior leader and his resignation threat was only like a storm in tea cup. If Jagga Reddy quits the Congress, he can heave a sigh of relief. Even if Jagga Reddy remains in the Congress, he cannot do anything in the party. So, why blackmailing?
