When Mrunal refused speech at an award function

A video of Mrunal Thakur discussing her encounter with the media favoring a “star kid” over her during an interview has circulated widely on social media.

In the video, Mrunal addresses how nepotism in Bollywood cannot solely be attributed to star kids but also involves the audience and the media.

During the interview, Mrunal expresses, “Let’s begin with the media. For example, we don’t have Ananya and Janhvi, unfortunately. But I have to say something, it’s not their fault, they are star kids, it’s we, as common people who are so intrigued to know what’s going on in their life.”

Mrunal recounts an incident at an awards ceremony where she won the Best Actress Critics award, but the media abruptly ended her interview to chase after Janhvi Kapoor, who had won in a different category. Readmore!

She shares, “I will give you one simple example - at an awards night, an interview session was happening, I was in the middle of an interview and the media ran behind the star kid, now tell me! I have been awarded as the best actor by critics, the same as Janhvi being awarded the same night. I wasn’t even handed the speech…”

Allegedly, the video is from Mrunal’s appearance at the 21st Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2019.

She urges people to refrain from solely blaming star kids for nepotism and implores the media to contemplate their actions and role in the nepotism debate.

“I am not saying that I am jealous or something. I am saying that it’s not their fault. So stop pointing nepotism, nepotism. It also, what I feel, depends on the audience and the media especially,” she remarks.

On the professional front, Mrunal transitioned from a successful career in television serials to acting in films. She made her feature film debut in 2019 with Love Sonia and has since garnered praise for her performances in movies like Sita Ramam, Hi Nanna, among others. Mrunal is set to appear in Family Star alongside Vijay Devarakonda.
