What's next for Venkaiah Naidu?

In another three weeks, Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu would be relinquishing his post. He has just turned 73 and compared to other politicians from various parties, this is not the age to retire from active political life and he cannot be referred to as a veteran politician yet.

But Venkaiah is forced to quit active politics. After being the Vice-President of India, he cannot come back into the Bharatiya Janata Party and become active in politics to become a Union cabinet minister or any such post.

At the same time, he cannot even accept the post of a Governor, which is below his stature after serving in the position of the Vice President of India.

At the most, he can be considered for the post of an ambassador to any big nation, which is respectable, but the chances of him accepting such posts are unlikely. Readmore!

So, Venkaiah has no option but to relinquish his active life in politics, directly or indirectly.

He has already written an autobiography of sorts; so, there is nothing much for him to write about himself.

He can only write a book on his experiences as Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha chairman.

There is a talk that he would become active with the activities of his Swarna Bharati Trust, being managed by his daughter Deepa Venkat in Nellore district.

But it is highly unlikely that he would shift his residence to Nellore.

Sources said he would remain in New Delhi for at least another three to four years.

The Centre has already allotted a house for him at Rajdoot Marg near Chanakya Puri in Delhi and repair works are going on in that building.

Hw would be shifting to the new house on August 10 itself. But he would be frequently visiting his home state to take care of the Swarna Bharati trust activities.

“But one cannot rule out the possibility of Venkaiah playing behind the screen role in Andhra politics in the coming days,” sources added.
