Dil Raju, one of the most successful producers ever in Tollywood, is known for his Midas touch. He invests heavily – money and time – in scripts.
No wonder then that he had not produced a remake until now. Starting with “Jaanu”, starring Sharwanand and Samantha, he is producing two remakes in 2020. What has changed his stance and why did he buy the remake rights of “Jaanu”?
“I love to work on a project from the scripting stage itself. So, I didn’t show interest in remakes earlier. When I saw the teasers and songs of Tamil movie “96”, I asked the makers to show me the film and they obliged. I watched the film a month before its release in Tamilnadu. I fell in love with it instantly. The songs, the moments, the magic… all touched my heart and bought the rights immediately. Now, I am also remaking “Pink” in Telugu,” he explained.
The Tamil version won rave reviews for the exceptional chemistry between Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi. Trisha is a well-known name in Tollywood as well. Why did he not cast her in Telugu?
“Trisha was perfect for the Tamil version. But we felt Samantha is ideal for the Telugu version. Samantha has been doing exceptional work in films like Rangasthalam, Majili, and Oh Baby. She had apprehensions but she got convinced when I told my ideas,” he explained.
Dil Raju is also ready to face any trolls.
“I have seen the trolls when the Telugu version of Premam got released but I am confident that Jaanu will not face any such criticism. Even those who had seen the Tamil version will also like it. We have not changed its soul,” he added.
Dil Raju gave the biggest hit in Sharwanand’s career with “Shatamanam Bhavathi”. Will this become a bigger hit than that movie?
“I can’t talk about the box-office range but it would definitely stand as the best movie in his career,” Dil Raju showed confidence.
