US Cracks Down: AP Man Arrested Post Conviction

A man from NTR district in Andhra Pradesh has been taken into custody by immigration authorities after being convicted in a serious child abuse case in Michigan.

According to officials, the accused — identified as Nava Kunal Tupili — had earlier been found guilty of crimes involving minors, including using a computer to commit an offence and accosting children for immoral purposes.

Authorities revealed that Tupili had entered the US on a student visa, which was revoked in 2024. Despite losing his legal status, he continued to remain in the country, prompting action from immigration enforcement agencies.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer had already been placed on him. Following his conviction, the local county jail handed him over to ICE custody instead of releasing him. Readmore!

Officials described him as an “illegal alien” at the time of arrest, highlighting that he was staying in the US without valid authorization after his visa cancellation.

The case has once again brought attention to the issue of visa compliance and enforcement, particularly involving foreign nationals whose legal status changes after entering the country.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about deportation proceedings, but the arrest signals stricter monitoring of individuals with revoked visas, especially in cases involving criminal convictions.

The incident has also raised concerns over the misuse of student visas and the need for tighter tracking systems to prevent such cases in the future.
