A popular hero’s recent film has ended in disaster at the box office, but the real chatter in industry circles is about the money behind the project.
Many initially believed the star had taken a very small remuneration out of goodwill for the producers after the film struggled.
That narrative is now being questioned as more details about the financial trail are quietly making the rounds.
Apparently, the producers had already paid the hero an advance of Rs 12 crore way back in 2016. When the project finally took shape after years of uncertainty, another Rs 25 crore was paid freshly as remuneration. On paper, that makes the hero’s total pay Rs 37 crore.
However, the long delay in locking the project meant the advance remained tied up for nearly a decade.
With heavy financing costs and interest piling up on that Rs 12 crore, the amount reportedly ballooned to nearly Rs 55 crore over ten years. From the producers’ perspective, their outflow linked to the star touched almost Rs 80 crore.
The hero still received only Rs 37 crore, while financiers enjoyed the interest.
Many now say the real issue was the producers agreeing to such a risky advance in the first place, with no clarity on the project back then.
