TRS spending Rs 700 crore on Huzurabad?

After being in political hibernation for a long time, maverick former Telangana MLA Gone Prakash Rao has been appearing in the media for the last few weeks with his punch dialogues and controversial statements attacking Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Prakash Rao has been targeting KCR for splurging money on Huzurabad assembly constituency with a view to defeating former health minister Eatala Rajender who defected to the BJP after quitting his assembly seat.

On Tuesday, the former MLA wrote a letter to Election Commission of India to hold by-elections to Huzurabad at the earliest, so as to prevent the ruling TRS from luring the people of the constituency with freebies and schemes like Dalit Bandhu, besides mobilising his party machinery to wrest the seat.

He alleged that the chief minister was ridiculing democracy and sanctity of voting in the forthcoming by-election in Huzurabad assembly constituency.  Readmore!

“KCR has deputed his party men to spend hundreds of crores of rupees in Huzurabad over the last two months to win the seat,” he said.

Prakash Rao pointed out that the TRS government had come up with a rate card for the party own rank and file and caste leaders which is similar to villagers fixing rates for cattle in rural shandies.

“According to the information I have sourced the TRS has spent at least Rs 300 crore in Huzurabad so far. I was told that the TRS would spend another Rs 400 crores for the by-poll, making it the most expensive election in the country's history,” he said.

He reminded that in the recently held by-election in Nagarjunasagar assembly constituency and elections to two graduates’ constituencies in Hyderabad and Nalgonda, the ruling TRS party had booked function halls and marriage halls and distributed Rs 2000-5000 to voters in these respective constituencies.

Several complaints were filed by various political parties and social activists and the media, too, gave it extensive coverage, he said.

A large number of TRS leaders and cadre from neighbouring constituencies including those of KCR and his son K T Rama Rao had been camping in Huzurabad to entice voters.

“They are also enrolling bogus voters on an unprecedented scale and also ensuring deletion of the votes of those supporting the rivals,” he said and requested that the EC conduct the elections in Huzurabad at the earliest so as to bring down the misuse of power by the KCR government.
