Telangana Rashtra Samithi led by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has achieved a rare honour of being the only regional party in the country to be allotted a piece of land for the party office in New Delhi, the national capital.
The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs on Friday issued a notification allotting 1,100 square metres (a little more than 1315 square yards) of land at the prime area of Vasant Vihar in New Delhi.
The notification was issued by the land and development officer of the Union ministry. An official release from the TRS said the chief minister would soon lay the foundation stone and complete the construction of the office building expeditiously.
It is a big achievement for the TRS, as no other regional party in the country has got a party office in the national capital and no land was allotted to any such party.
“Even decades-old regional parties like Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Telugu Desam Party or Shiv Sena, have been allotted any land in Delhi till now,” a party leader said.
Most of these regional parties have been running in the residential quarters allotted to their MPs in Delhi. Only national parties like the Congress, the, BJP, the CPI and CPI (M) have their party offices in the capital.
The TDP led by Chandrababu Naidu had been trying for a piece of land in Delhi. Though it had been an alliance partner of the NDA twice and part of the government, it could not get the allotment of land for the party office.
For that matter, YSR Congress party which as 22 Lok Sabha members and six Rajya Sabha members, also does not have the piece of land in Delhi. Whenever Jagan goes to Delhi, he operates from his quarters in 1, Janpath.
What is worse, even Aam Admi Party which is ruling Delhi state, doesn’t have its own office space. That way, the TRS is the only regional party that has bagged the credit for having an office in such a huge space in Delhi!
