Trade Buzz: Dil Raju Into Profits Prior To Jaanu Release

Not many would have dared to remake a film like 96, but Dil Raju was hell bent on bringing it to Telugu right from the day he watched it.

He signed up a big star like Samantha and a bankable male lead like Sharwanand to ensure good offers from theatrical and non-theatrical avenues.

It was made on a budget of around Rs. 20Cr to Rs. 22 Cr, which was more or less recovered through theatrical business itself.

The film's theatrical rights of Telugu States were valued at Rs. 16 Cr and it fetched Rs. 2 Cr from overseas rights. There are other markets like Karnataka and Rest of India too. Readmore!

Having an attractive lead pair ensured superb deals for non-theatrical rights. That was bought by Mango Networks that resold the digital rights to Amazon Prime and Satellite rights to Star Maa Networks.

Dil Raju made a handsome profit on the film as the theatrical and non-theatrical rights of Jaanu were estimated to be Rs. 29 Cr.

It is sheer planning and execution of Dil Raju who made sure that it is into profits in spite of a few unforeseen delays happened during the filming. It has to be seen whether a classic like Jaanu appeals to Telugu audience or not.

Most of its target audience have watched the Tamil version with subtitles on OTT platforms.
